EDITOR NOTE: Markets tend to “lead” the economy. That much we all know. But we also know that “sentiment” often drives markets despite economic “fundamentals.” Just as sentiment can be wrong, so too can the stock market. With so many Americans out of work, do you really think that a raging stock market is signalling the US economy is, as they say, “a-okay”? Really, think about this for a moment.
If you were to look only at the stock market and nothing else, you'd probably have no clue that 21 million Americans are still out of work. You'd probably think everything in the world is fine. Great, even.
