Clearwater is the smallest of the three cities in the Tampa Bay area. The site was originally inhabited by the Tocobaga people. The United States Army constructed Fort Harrison on a bluff overlooking Clearwater Harbor around 1835, but it wasn’t until the 1840s that the area’s population grew. The Federal Armed Occupation Act of 1842 offered 160 acres to anyone willing to bear arms and cultivate Clearwater’s land. It experienced another population explosion when Peter Demens completed the first passenger railroad line to Clearwater in 1888. Today its population stands at more than 107,600.
Clearwater gives collectors and serious buyers plenty of opportunity to shop for gold and silver.
