US Mint at Dahlonega
A branch of the United States Mint was established in Dahlonega in 1835, the result of a gold rush in north Georgia. It minted more than $6 million in gold coins over less than three decades, closing in 1861 as the gold rush came to an end. Today, these Georgia-minted gold coins are considerably difficult to find and very collectible.
